Corridor of Modern Art: Expressions of Interest
Vibrance in partnership with Glenorchy City Council are calling for expressions of interest from artists for COMA (Corridor of Modern Art).
COMA is a new street art project to activate the Intercity Cycleway from Moonah to MONA. This project will commission Tasmanian artists to install artworks on walls along the intercity cycleway establishing a new tourist destination within the City of Glenorchy.
This is an exciting opportunity for artists to have their work included in the first stages of a new art and tourism landmark that will sit alongside Mona, exposing artists’ work to national and international audiences. This project will breathe new life into a much-utilised transport corridor; attracting visitors to our CBDs, encouraging cycling and activity along the cycleway and creating a sense of pride for our local community.
Who can apply
This opportunity is only available to artists residing in Tasmania. Groups are welcome to apply, however they will be responsible for deciding how the artist fee is split amongst themselves.
Each wall will be located along the bike track between MONA and Moonah. Successful artists will be presented with a wall as part of their offer.
The walls will be painted between April 12th and May 31st, each wall will be installed individually. The painting timeframe for each wall will vary based on access, size and location.
Please keep these dates in mind when expressing your interest in the project. If your submissions is successful, you MUST be available to complete your works during this time.
This is a paid opportunity; each artist will be paid a commission and design fee for their wall. Vibrance will support the artist by providing all materials and access to equipment and organise all related planning and safety requirements. The artist will produce a design for the wall and then work with Vibrance to install the mural.
Submissions will be assessed against the following, equally weighted criteria:
● The quality and originality of your work
● The impact your work will have on the surrounding public space
● Evidence of working on large scale works
● The impact it will have on your arts practice
● Availability of the artist during the production time frame
Artists or artist groups will be selected on the basis of advice from a panel consisting of representatives from Moonah Arts Centre, Vibrance, Glenorchy City Council, Destination Southern Tasmania and Mona.
